Ingredients:

For the meat sauce:

1 pound (450g) ground beef
1/2 pound (225g) Italian sausage (mild or hot, depending on your preference)
1 onion, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste

For the ricotta filling:

2 cups ricotta cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Other ingredients:Lasagna noodles (pre-cooked or no-boil noodles, follow the package instructions)
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet or pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spatula or spoon.

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Stir well to combine. Season the sauce with dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning as needed.

In a separate bowl, prepare the ricotta filling. Mix together the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Assemble the lasagna: In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Add about one-third of the ricotta filling and spread it evenly. Sprinkle some shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the ricotta layer. Top it with another layer of meat sauce.

Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta filling, mozzarella, Parmesan, and meat sauce. Continue layering until you've used up all the ingredients. Finish with a layer of meat sauce and a generous amount of shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure it's not touching the cheese to avoid sticking.

Bake the lasagna in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese on top is bubbly and lightly browned.

Once done, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the layers to set and make it easier to cut into neat slices.

Enjoy your homemade lasagna with a side salad and some garlic bread! It's a hearty and satisfying dish that's perfect for gatherings and family meals.
